  HIGH TECH PRODUCTS
      – - Chuck Reed’s Win From Green Technology
      – - google ranks #4  cisco ranks #18

SHOPPING MALLS – - from Coasta Mesa to Tommy Frank’s silicon valley favorite the Tanforan in San Bruno - – are the new form of entertainment for the 21st century. Besides that’s all there is to do. I have 27 shopping malls pinpointed on my unusually productive schedule. Completing the brand new map of shopping malls in silicon valley just might need to wait until Dr. Tom Harley and the future arrive. Surprises? Valley Fair my favorite is the largest. The most talked about shopping malls in silicon valley lack the distinguishing characteristics that you’d find in a shopping district like Menlo Park’s delightfully overpriced Santa Cruz Avenue. Sources of lists are none better than Yahoo! Search, the Silicon Valley Business Journal’s infamous “book of lists 2007″ and the San Francisco Business Times “Book of Lists 2008″.

This Monday it’s shopping malls – - the largest – - the “valleylist” point of view - – the Virgin Megastore controversy – - the publications – - and the newsgroups. Sponsorship proposals are the real activity behind the scenes. The “anti-people” are o.u.t. trying to catch up with “valleylist” and the win with their market segment – - important influential and independent people in silicon valley. Big gap is the lack of a real “green” shopping center initiative as Mayor Chuck Reed would say, there’s still plenty of room out there to score first this year.

My plight in the publishing business brought me to the San Jose Labor Commission. There’s an ongoing fight to exclude shut down and destroy new businesses before they can succeed. Officially this is not a Police Department problem it is a Labor Commission problem. According to the Labor Commission “There isn’t anything in your request that can be handled by the Labor Commission. Your request for help is a matter that requires legal help and the involvement of law enforcement. [deep blue type font]” The subtext to the reply was “keep very busy all weekend and stop by Monday I’ll see if Mayor Reed’s office wants to push high tech in silicon valley.” What’s up? A bizarre form of extortion on the part of “the gang.” It’s time again to force people out of business unless “the gang” gets a piece of the action.” The reply from venerable Hitachi on this type of problem is “No conversation no nookie.” And that’s where they are. No conversation.

THE LARGEST MALLS are out of the area and require round trip airfare and at least a weekend – -

1. largest – - west edminton mall canada
2. mall of america Bloomington MN largest in the USA
3. king of prussia mall Philadelphia, PA USA
4. south coast plaza Costa Mesa CA USA
5. sawgrass mills Ft. Lauderdale FLA USA

As reported previously in “valleylist” the most impressive shopping experience remains the Virgin Megastore. Where’s the silicon valley Virgin Megastore? San Francisco of course or perhaps on to Disneyland and Anaheim or Hollywood and Vine and then as far away as Ontario .

There’s litterally nothing at all anywhere in silicon valley like the excitement and entertainment value of the Virgin Megastore. Instead it is the bland music of the dominant merchant Target with no entertainment value at all. As a former Texas size syndicated columnist used to tell people “see’ya at the video rental counter – - “

Just like any big money business the shopping mall industry has it’s own specialty magazines that really do cover the industry. A few a listed below – -
The worst without question is the Great Mall in Milpitas. Yet a little number crunching will tell you that it can not measure up to Valley Fair. It’s that homogenized undistinguished and yet unavoidable problem. “valleylist’s” point of view? Drive to S.F. and enjoy the luxury of eating well shopping without being hassled everywhere and finding needed products unlike anything you’ve ever seen. People who shop – - and that’s everybody – - need ease low prices and convenience. Instead they run into medieval villages surrounded by asphalt moats that require people to walk and continue to walk until they are saved by the most bizarre of modern shopping mall conveniences – - the food court.

The very interested can continue to browse the yellow pages. You’ll find that silicon valley’s very own “Great Mall” is not the largest inspite of all the hype.
