   HIGH TECH PRODUCTS

+ in shift, microsoft sells software online

NEWS NEEDS TO BE NEW(sm) could be the new anthem for the new broadcast or cable company to replace CNN – - formerly the world leader in the news business. my guess is the award goes to local television with their “program interruptions” or to great internet news services like “yahoo news” that really do provide real news as quickly as possible.

“valleylist” news requires a big change from every monday to every friday. publication schedule changes are

 > sunday 11.30.2008 holiday greeting from “valleylist”

 > friday 12.05.2009 the new publication schedule begins

 > every friday “valleylist”

in the meantime you people will be getting a lot of fun invitations and special announcements from “valleylist” and the people who came up with “let’s move the food around” and other new and innovative projects for the holidays.

conceptually people would say the internet should provide the newest news. people keep the internet connection active and the newest news comes up on the list of “late breaking news” blurbs. the “San Jose Mercury News late breaking news” is a big regional winner for example.

the reality is that it’s local television or the national networks that provide the real news. for instance NBC late breaking news is very successful because they have their own people who research and produce stories to cover the stuff that happens. people decide if it could be later put on television in the form of a news story. the suprprise real success is “npr” – - national public radio – - with the newest news and unrelentingly ambitious news programming that has garnered one award after another.

how did “valleylist” end up with news needs to be new(sm) – -

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/valleylist/message/126

reviewing an old list of “valleylist” titles and keeping up with the latest news on television and the internet led to 15 new and unanticipated articles that generated an enormous interest in “valleylist” because of their relevance to what’s really going on in the real world. the internet is so full of old news it’s easy to distinguish yourself if you work really hard at it.

A CRITIQUE OF CNN [too cute]

the critique of CNN could apply to almost all news programming on television and elsewhere because it’s the same news again and again until there really is no news at all. it resembles an endless supply of low cost commentary not too different from a news blurb produced at the lowest possible cost.

CNN sucks

CNN.SUCKS - – reclaim the net

Michael Moore Thinks CNN Sucks

Cnn – Gawker

it may surprise people however consumers really do want news that is the latest news. what’s the value in repeating the same news again and again – - well let’s just treat our customers and viewers like idiots and of course they channel surf trying to find the newest news.

SILICON VALLEY NEWS STATIONS – - cable and broadcast

 > great resource for this kind of research is the

state handbook and guide to resources

 > san jose is counting down the minutes until the conversion to all digital television. however digital television will not make the news any newer.

MAYOR OF THE WEEK

- – mayors in silicon valley notoriously unable to release press releases every week so “valleylist” needs to find the mayor of the week as the result of original research

- – from a “news needs to be new”(sm) point of view it’s got to be Larry Klein mayor of Palo Alto Andrew M. Cohen mayor of Menlo Park and Stanford Dean Hennesy dean of Stanford U. that compete with very innovative companies for media attention because they believe that news needs to be new.

- – politically speaking the 15 mayors from the largest cities in silicon valley should emulate Gavin Newsom and really publicize their activities and if you need a list of news services or video services then of course it’s “valleylist” and mayor the week or syndication or outer space or labor day for links to services that can help politically important people get the message out.

CONCLUSION the problem is news is old. the solution – - cable news network. result an almost immediate success with old news repeated every few hours. the opportunity is immense however you need to push a few national and local television stations out of the way before jumping into the a very large and profitable new business where “all the news is new” is a very likely new line of business. the networks and cable companies suck at news because it is usually difficult to sustain the costly infrastructure need to keep news flowing in. dump the news and wire services and take the next flight to new york and you’ll feel a real “news needs to be new” kind of city.

or else try growing up in newark new jersey where old news means you ain’t going no where.

next version of “valleylist” 12.05.2008

- – that’s a break in the action and time off for my great new idea not to mention that this holiday – -

LET’S MOVE THE FOOD AROUND this is the zaney new idea for getting out of trouble and meeting new people and making money in a brand new way. it’s the fun of finding ways to send to the food to the food people. they then get it to those who need it.

it’s a “valleylist” project that’s more than charity and less than a virtual world war.

 - – let’s move the food around to

salvation army [food and help for poor and homeless]

sacred heart [services and food for poor and homeless]

re:generation [virgin mobile helps homeless teens]

 - – high tech donations like computers and monitors go to
