+ Silicon Valley Made Barack Obama a Hot Start-up
SECOND TO THE LAST PRODUCTIONS includes a facebook book report and an invitation to join “valleylist people” on a new public group that’s fun.
nerds and rich people are the needed basic elements of a successful silicon valley start up. i’m interested in publishing startups and of course facebook fits the bill as do the other internet social groups. however real enormous publishing companies have found their start up in the same way as the second to the last productions people.
this is the silicon valley version of what can happen when people come up with a zaney scheme to get out of trouble and meet new people and make money in a brand new way.
while not the largest internet social group – - facebook successfully attracted world wide attention with it’s innovative membership concepts and very renown business leadership. Facebook is more interesting to people in silicon valley. mark zuckerman hit a new silicon valley high point as the youngest to enter the forbes list of usa ‘s richest people. Individual net worth $1.5 billion .
what it takes is a little bit of the mad scientist and a little bit of the nerdy entrepreneur. Where did the rich people come from – - here’s a second to the last productions avatar to illustrate the point.
what’s even more interesting is the list of publishing startups of people who simply decided to come up with a new scheme and found ways to meet new people and get out of trouble and make a lot of money in a brand new way.
PUBLISHING STARTUPS
- – these are my favorites
1. Facebook started at stanford university from the news articles however it’s a year book kind of thing actually because the design is based on a high school year book concept. In reality it started at Harvard according to Facebook the complete biography . The Facebook factsheet says that it is the second most popular internet social group on the internet yet the press states consistently that it has the most members. According to Facebook The Missing Manual facebook has 50 million members and $15 billion
2. Whole Earth Catalogue started with Stuart Brand – - Official history
Among the earliest entries into publishing free information and creating wealth from providing free access to information. The leverage comes from a new generation of people interested in leaving society to form their own new kind of social and political structure.
3. hugh heffner – - playboy
6. ted turner – - turner networks
7. Apple Computer – - Jobs started in a garage according to local gossip however the actual facts from the History of Apple Computer suggest that it was yet again high school – - “Steven Wozniak and Steven Jobs had been friends in high school. – - and getting jobs working for companies in Silicon Valley . (Woz for Hewlett-Packard, Jobs for Atari) and invented the Apple I. Jobs, who had an eye for the future, insisted that he and Wozniak try to sell the machine, and on April 1, 1976, Apple Computer was born. Hobbyists did not take the Apple I very seriously, and Apple did not begin to take off until 1977, when the Apple II debuted at a local computer trade show.
8. Bill Hewitt and Dave Packard – - HP started in a garage
9. Mark Andreesen and Jim Clark Mozilla and Netscape
Needed research reveals that there’s more to the picture than my favorites People Magazine Forbes Magazine Business Week and the “valleylist” alpha list

MAYOR OF THE WEEK the highly successful mayor of stanford university yet again scores with high tech and facebook’s surprise move from Palo Alto to Stanford U. Research Park.
The Palo Alto problem most likely has to do with a serious effort to help develop the live-work scenario that could create a lively commercial area on University however the restaurants and bars and sleazy side of Palo Alto nightlife probably scared Facebook away. Stanford U. describes their local government – - “The university is led by President John Hennessy and Provost John Etchemendy, governed by a Board of Trustees and Faculty Senate, and supported by numerous offices.” – - administration offices
CONCLUSION if all of the internet were for example a publishing business then it would be interesting to know how to start a new successful publishing company. However much of what goes on with the internet is membership oriented like Facebook. There people find value lies in connecting with people on line. Not too different from email as opposed to email newsletters. That’s subscribers [or end users] plus advertisers or sponsors create a new way of making money that did not exist before. Facebook will most likely evolve the way of the publishing industry because of the immense dependancy on advertising and sponsorship revenues. However I think they need to revisit their services to individual members because members can be “valued” and linked to a specific dollar amount. The membership response is they want a better deal from facebook in a very competitive environment.
What’s safer than Stanford U. for the new and improved Facebook. Most likely the migration towards Santa Clara which remains the high tech capital in many ways as well as being distinguished as the most american city.
It’s the city – - Santa Clara CA – - that owns the pc market.
LET’S MOVE THE FOOD AROUND this is the zaney new idea for getting out of trouble and meeting new people and making money in a brand new way. it’s the fun of finding ways to send to the food to the food people. they then get it to those who need it.
it’s a “valleylist” project that’s more than charity and less than a virtual world war.
- – let’s move the food around to
