Products on sale at the Virgin Megastore in San Francisco (only location near silicon valley) sell high tech in various shapes and sizes. A glance at their cafe – - a mini version of the S.F. hotspot Citizen Cake – - made it a “must visit” on my list of S.F. haunts to haunt. However the low tech CDs and DVDs – - all on sale at $10 – - need to drop down to $9. Then perhaps eager purchasers would drop a few more bills. S.F is one four Megastores in California
Virgin Megastore is the most exciting place anybody could try to not shop. They sell high tech – -
> memory
> earbuds
- – and a few cellphones. Virgin Mobile offered their customers including myself a virgin mobile “slice” owner a special v-day treat . of mushy wall paper, ringtones, and other cellphone treats. The infamous Virgin Mobile RED “slice” was stolen while I was completing research for the “Product” special issue of “valleylist” and, quite surprisingly, lead to yet another encounter with the police. They kindly suggested I complete a stolen property report. Then the police had to process the paperwork and assign an investigator. Virgin Mobile said “buy a replacement phone at a substantial discount.” How’s that for high tech in S.F. ? ! ?
Richard Branson founder and CEO started all the trouble with when Virgin Records bought an airline and went “mega” . Now he might someday expand to silicon valley.
COMPUSA staff at Comp USA Union Square says the company is going out of business 30% to 50% off and all inventory needs to go. A few days later, the doors were closed.

The S.F. Westfield Shopping Center on Market street in San Francisco is a resounding high tech success. Totally devoid of high tech stores however – - there were only two – - Palm, Bose. To elude more tedium, let’s read up on the founding of Westfield Shopping Centers by Frank Lowy and John Saunders; the origins of the Westfield shopping centre in Blacktown, NSW Australia.
YAHOO! SHOPPING is not what the silicon valley success of the 21st centure is really all about. However Yahoo!’s “Shopping” category is easier to use than the current version of “valleylist” when it comes to finding a list of the most popular products in the important high tech categories.
