Sunnyvale CA – -
FLAT SCREEN TELEVISIONS continue to dazzle everybody including the casual shopper at Target, the sophisticated homebody at SEARS, and of course those who just cannot resist the very new technology from AQUOS, SONY,
PANASONIC and Samsung. Latest trend – - “green” ! The first round of consumer activity formerly known as shopping landed me at the San Jose police station. I had to watch people wait in line on a 15″ flat screen. It was a long line of people waiting for a deal, but not that kind of deal. Not everybody looks good on a 15″ screen.
The problem – - identity theft. After pick pocketing my identification the unknown marauder decided to skim $30 here and $30 there only to finally trip off the alarms and leave my account at “NSF” . I walked away with some paperwork and a list of steps to take to solve the identity theft problem.
Far away in glamorous Las Vegas where I have never been the Consumer Electronics Show was presenting the “Panasonic Lifewall” the largest flat screen television ever. Large enough to cover an entire wall in the living room. Just wait 5 years until the “Lifewall” is commercially available. It will display almost anything and responds to voice commands and includes an i-podesque touch screen interface.
About Sunnyvale. I’m at an internet computer near the city hall complex where Mayor Anthony (Tony) Spitaleri is busy mapping the Sunnyvale development project. It’s all about politics and people. Yahoo! HQ not far away is still the leader in search technology and new features. The other favorite stop was the Hacienda Shopping Mall on the El Camino with the cute little Starbucks and other coffee shops. Are silicon valley companies that need a downtown location trying Sunnyvale? I was shopping for a flat screen television at the time – -
However here’s the big news. According to the Wall Street Journal Tues January 29, 2008 surprisingly enough big growth in the flat pannel display sector. “SONY despite downturn in economy, is expecting double digit growth in television flat pannel digital display one of their biggest gowth areas.” Here’s a few examples. “Best Buy LG Electronics 42 inch LCD dropped from $3,000 to $1,200.” The bigger picture is lots of growth for all manufacturers world wide, “LCD revenues to jump 27% to $82.7 billion. Plasma 7% to 17 billion.” According to DisplaySearch North America should see a 26% increase in LCD sales while Plasma sales are expected to decline slightly.”
