People like avatars because they simulate the ways people interact with the internet and video games. The avatar I created has been popping up everywhere including internet social groups and newsgroups and even yahoo email. For example I created my avatar on Yahoo Avatars and then loaded it onto my NING internet social group ”valleylist network NING“ and it is displayed with all applications and activities. I learned a little more about avatars lately with the discovery of the OREILLY Press book “Facebook The Forgotten Manual” . Facebook with 50 million members and worth $15 mil [market value] is a big proponent of avatars and their role in interactivity. Most impressive is my “valleylist” success in nominating my avatar for Yahoo Avatar of the Week. They are still tallying the votes. The full size avatar is 150 x 235 pixels and the thumbnail size is 50 x 50 pixels. They are great because they can be exported downloaded or even copied and pasted into almost every internet application. The only thing interesting about virtual reality games used to be how difficult it was to create an avatar or character to represent yourself in the virtual world. Now it’s an example of the kind of fun people can have with games and the internet as well as virtual worlds and virtual groups in the 21st century. For some people the difficulty is that fantasy games need to stay in the fantasy world. It’s online or a video game or computer game product people purchase. It’s not a great idea to take those fantasy games too seriously outside of the virtual world. The most fun and useful avatars are the ones you can create yourself.
