END OF THE SUMMER IN SILICON VALLEY is over 100 degrees and lost people running around in the scorching heat. New Jersey people with any common sense run to the beach. With Pacifica the big beach just a block away still not quite ready for prime time  all there is to do of course is go to the gym. Or you could run around in the bleached water of the fountain at Cesear Chavez park just up the street from the museum of modern art.

Mention John Mcain and I am immediately reminded of  the first “valleylist” win of the new century – - small government big cities. It means talk turkey and belly up to the table and get something done every day with your PDA tucked into your belt way below the buckle and try to do your &)_&$*(#&Q&)&  job.

This week it’s the usual suspects at movies on san pedro and lots of tourist money spent at Stumps and P.F. Changs and Spiedo and Gordon Biersch. These franchise food companies have literally taken over the tourist business in San Jose and elsewhere as opposed to the cute local businesses that steal the show in Palo Alto or Menlo Park or Santa Clara or San Mateo. What’s the problem? San Jose continues to count on having too many people and has completely dropped the ball on technology leadership. Lenny Williams lead singer for Tower of Power lead the way this past week at the summer concert series this past week at the Summer Concert seriers and really delivered at top notch performance. All it is people is the difference between what amateur (like the buzz) and real talent can do to come up with the really great stuff.

The weekend Jazz Festival people were very unimpressed with the audience for their leading edge performance and threatened to take the show elsewhere in silicon valley where people really come up through on their business projects. And where did I run into Sam Licardo the supervisor for district 3 and the summertime entertainment program – - at the opening of the Penguin Aroyo on Santa Clara. Sam was there to warn people about bad yogurt and try to welcome new business to the burned out downtown area at the same time.

MAYOR OF THE WEEK comes from backeast and really has done the work needed to set the pace for the twentyfirst century. Too bad he didn’t settle in San Mateo or even San Jose because they still do not have their hig tech action items in the pipeline. What’s the silicon valley known for if not homegrown high tech mega successes far and away in excess of anything anybody ever imagined or put on a strategic plan.

Burlingame. No I don’t think so. No stopping in Burlingame. Santa Cruz is too touristy to try a high tech play of any kind. I’d say Palo Alto and of course end up wrong again because it’s a not there – - yet.

a top notch wonderkind of worldwide kind. The education is nothing compared to finally putting a lid on high school weird is funny and taking on the world class companies that call silicon valley home. If you can’t handle world class then move to San Jose and try to find anything other than the San Jose Police still messing around with their high school drop outs who join gangs and chase each other around and see who gets arrested. As I mentioned looks like I’m well on my way to Santa Clara which is the Most American City according to the 2001 national rank and why not says Patricia Mahan who cancelled everything to run city government for a while.

PUBLICATIONS IN SILICON VALLEY  – - 15 CITIES

To find new and interesting things to do in silicon valley for the end of the summer take a look at the area local news papers and you’ll find yourself busier than a coffee drinking technophobe avoiding a deadline. If it weren’t for the low confidence level in Washington politics then people would actually do more than scan the news they would keep busy and do things of value.

CONCLUSION As many of my loyal fans have guessed I’m hostage to the city of San Jose and their odd little game with their gangs. It’s an invisible war where all the threats are too subtle to be observed on camera and the daily death threat is the way of the future. What do they want – - the usual. I want your car. I want your wallet. I want your new internet business. I want your publication for just a few weeks. I want what ever – -

I fired off this version of “valleylist” because there’s lots to do in silicon valley. Good luck checking out of the San Jose gang revitialization project of the new century. It is really important that people find things to do that a fun and interesting and don’t require spending a few too many years on probation. It is because I complained that I am the new “toy” to be used by the local San Jose Police department gang until I’m all used up. The latest question is “what do you do with those people after they are all used up.”
