TECHNOLOGY BY THE NUMBERS says high tech has a long way to go. 6 billion people. everybody would like to buy something. however at least 10/11 ths of the world population finds prices prohibitively high. high tech is too boring. let’s try sailing. plain old time with the family is more fun.

trip hawkins video game designer inventor and founder of electronic arts is the “valleylist” avatar this week.

with the holiday season winning again “valleylist” will wrap up on new years day. version 01.01.2011. plans are to take off the month of january. all you “valleylist” people should run off to the consumer electronics show and mac world. stay tuned for special promotions and freebies.

those of us who enjoy the holidays like things like the macy’s celbrity bell ringing event. all of a sudden i’m too shy to ring a bell for macy’s salvation army fundraiser. instead it was sing along with nigel and clive and the british invasion and the cast of shrek the musical. sal castaneda and the raiderettes kept the entertainment going. most important person at the event. charlotte shultz who founded the salvation army celebrity bell ringer program 30 years ago.

salesforce mobile [from salesforce.com] for the iphone is the app of the week. apple has been big on downloading apps and content for over 10 years and finally brought the rest of the world on board.

“valleylist” favorites at the local apple itunes store are here comes the sun sun king all across the universe and magical mystery tour.

doobie brothers live 4 song acoustic set at the apple computer store union square was the big christmas surprise from apple this year. new album world gone crazy and world wide tour sneak preview was too much fun. musical perfection.

the reason to take a look at the numbers is to predict the future of high tech. what’s at stake is more than money can buy.

“valleylist” has yet to complete work on the entire scope of the the problem. however a quick look at the important new technology areas suggests that the problem with mass marketing high tech continues to look like

1.too techie

2.way to expensive

3.too difficult to use and

4.too time consuming to consume

in any case it’s world domination and ereader in every household that we’re talking about. high end high tech keeps pricing itself out of the market.

san francisco eats was an opportunity to see joey altman gene burns sheila himmel and patricia unterman and melanie wong talk about food.  a buffet with the best skewered salmon brochetts and pumkin muffins ever was the highly anticipated high light. the rest of the buffet was also very good. the actual exhibit of menues and food and restaurant photographs is not as inspiring as the food. i had a chance to talk to patricia unterman only to find that the owner and founder of the hays street grill can’t come up with a real definition for high tech food either.

the sf eco center holiday party was a surprise hit. sf environment people celebrated a successful year of trying to stop the city’s dependency on foreign oil and non-renewable energy. new director melanie nutter has a 10 year plan to put the city entirely on renewable energy.  the new director also promises to make the city of san francisco the #1 eco friendly city in the united states. sf police chief george gascon sent somebody to tell people  “how about and end to the sf homeless problem and the #1 non-homeless city in the u.s.a.” unlike law enforcement the liberal media keeps up on these problems and suggests simply that the city get all those poor homeless people back on benefits including housing.just end the infamous homeless problem. “just do it”. just like in a nike commercial.

nissan leaf  dropped off the first new all-electric-car in the bay area right in front of city hall. that’s the latest new all-electric-car. 100 miles to each charge. price in the mid 20,000. lots of fun people. food from taste catering. jack broidben from the bay area quality district says that the state along with nissan is kicking $1.3 million for 400 new charging spots on san francisco streets. the state is also adding $5 million for public and home charging stations. the objective. 1/2 of air pollution that comes from cars and 40% air quality problems need to be totally eliminated.
let’s try all-electric instead of all-polluting cars.

in the meantime “valleylist” projects continue to roll off the high tech bandwagon at a faster pace than ever.  what’s coming up is focusing on solutions instead of causing problems. eliminate failure not people.

conclusion. the most exciting things in san francisco are actually free.

like the “valleylist” here comes the sun tribute in the new york times 12.08.2010. the golden halo almost fit.

the next day the lichtenstein tribute in the san francisco chronicle 12.09.2010 photographed at the moscone center cloud computing confernece. cloudburst optional.

eric holder attorney general to the dept of justice has yet again declared himself unimportant. certain former police officers right here in san francisco are still in jail for fraud and extortion. local sfpd thinks their jailed excon excops are more important that the department of justice or mr. holder himself. why? because they get to stay in jail and pay bills for the police department.

the end of an era. sadam hussein’s defense minister tariq aziz sentanced to 10 years in prison for charges arising from the iraq-iran way. aziz is already facing execution for other charges from the iran-iraq conflict.

art museums and publications everywhere thank “valleylist” again for the unthinkable act of entrepreneurship.

let’s try technology and politics.
