YOUTUBE AND INTERNET MOVIES are it. toss your dvd player. it’s a digital wireless world. download and play on demand.
chad hurley founder of youtube and internet video pioneer is the “valleylist” avatar this week. hurley and partner steve chin are credited with inventing internet video. youtube started out as a kind of social group and evolved into the premiere source for videos on the internet. members upload and watch short videos. dialogue is of minimal importance. youtube was acquired by google and remains interesting yet odd. only more successful. google later tried to mature the product. youtube won’t grow up. commercialization means involving clients who want millions of viewers to find and watch their videos. youtube is too weird to follow a normal growth curve. after spawning dozens of imitators youtube went to top of the class with the most members and the most videos online and most videos watched. around the same time co-founder steve chin went off to google special projects. hurley hung around to made youtube even more successful. latest development youtube acquires internet rating service delicious.

analysis. the top 10 movie download sites don’t resemble the top 10 video sites at all. surprises include #1.cinemanow #2.blockbuster online movie downloads #3.amazon video on demand #4.itunes movie downloads. worth a mention are movieflix lovefilm starzplay netflix eztakes and real superpass. these services provide feature length movies for immediate playback or download for later viewing. unlike youtube the movie sites don’t limit themselves to mtv style short videos.
the digital video recorder [dvr] or personal video recorder [pvr] is an important source of movies as well. these services rely on television programming for content. dvrs will probably integrate internet movie services like blockbuster and itunes. the important products are tivoreplay tv microsoft xbox live sony ps3 and vudu.
consuming video or movies when you feel like it. convenient digital interface. almost unlimited digital storage. any kind of internet video or internet movie. just buy a digital video recorder or personal video recorder. put yourself the viewer in charge.
