OFF THE GRID could be an electric power strategy or a lifestyle or even a resurgence of the back-to-eden dream. a very comfortable high tech ore-technological way of life.
“valleylist” home of the future articles peaked with a new take on “consumer multi-media and data channels“. both time-warner tbs and aol remain vital companies. the product. high value low cost consumer news and entertainment.
only the data channels are different.
the next 6 titles cover new consumer technologies. alternate power sources for the home and for the automobile are somewhat successful. civilian space travel is still too expensive at $200,000 per ticket. digital photo frames are probably the end of the line. the last and final frontier in a multichannel post-industrial push to digitize everything. “valleylist” is looking forward to a future where you can email the latest greatest photo to your favorite digital photo frame. “home of the future” closes with email and google’s larry page’s. the consumer success of email means it might be possible someday to replace the us post office with email served up by internet giants like google and aol. “valleylist” continues the campaign to provide everybody with a unique email address to handle important business like billing voting and electronic payments. “valleylist” plans to close the year visiting sf restaurants and nightclubs.
somebody put a “hit” on my yahoo user id on 10.19.2011. as a result “valleylist” is coming up with a new email strategy. in the meantime it’s yahoo groups and “valleylist” the syndicated edition. yahoo via twitter was good enough to restore the user id on 10.25.2011 with appropriate blessings and warnings. [twitter?]
this looks like again a “hit” on my startup business. the intention was to force a “bad” deal with the “same people” from the phone company incident from 1994. unfortunately the problem includes certain people in law enforcement who think they are funny.
i just send them away empty handed.
off the grid is a more sensible and realistic future. scenarios based on lawlessness and depravity are just stupid. even worse there’s a need to force people. the new high for this “group of people” was denial of service. confused?
david geffen music mogul and innovative entertainment entrepreneur is the “valleylist” avatar this week [featuring pink power grid 3d]. in 1970 geffen with founded asylum records. jackson brownethe eaglesjoni mitchellbob dylantom waits and linda ronstadt. around 1980 he founded geffen records and recruited warner bros. records exec ed rosenblatt as president. geffen’s first artist to sign on was donna summer as well as john lennon‘s album double fantasy. later acts included olivia newton-johnasia with steve howe and john wettonelton johnchersonic youthaerosmithxtcpeter gabrielblink-182guns n’ rosesnirvanapat methenyand neil young.starting around 1986 it was new entertainment concepts with little shop of horrorsrisky business and beetlejuice. geffen was the broadway backer for the musicals dreamgirls and cats. in 1994, geffen co-founded the dreamworks skg studio with steven spielberg and jeffrey katzenberg. in 2008 geffen left dreamworks.
openly gay and among the few successful role models for aspiring gay business people geffen one of the richest people in america says to forbes (“the 400 richest americans of 2004″). geffen has pledged to give whatever money he makes to charity. he has not specified which charities or the manner of his giving. in 2002, he announced a $200 million unrestricted endowment for the school of medicine at ucla.

analysis. 3rd world countries are largely off the grid. skipping the enormous investment for building out a new electricity or water makes sense. 1.7 billion people don’t have electricity or water according to modern ghana news. scenarios from renewable energy.com describe the process as african town gets wind power and knowledge. the new york times describes the picture as “african huts far from the grid glow with renewable power”.
conceptually it’s the same process. developing nations and advanced economies want independence from fossil fuels. non-renewable energy sources meet the need. just like solar power enthusiasts 3rd world citizens need easy access to cheap and reliable electricity. a big international market with all continents and countries participating. driving forces are different. developing nations need electricity almost anyway they an buy beg borrow or steal it. remote cities and towns will never be on the grid. they need reliable off-the-grid power. fully developed countries still guzzle gas at such a rate the near future looks like it’ll be all used up. gone. depleted.
off-the-grid and alternate energy sources will replace fossil fuels like gas and oil. advanced nations like the usa and europe missed the renewable energy cut-over date so often it’s almost a joke. instead it’s very high cost gas and oil and a festering war in the middle east. the advanced nations should have succeeded at the new electric and power production scenario decades ago.
off-the-grid technology unfortunately remains very inefficient and costly. political and economic realities put the oil and gas giant companies like mobil and exxon on top of the business.
again the usa should be a world leader with maybe 50% or 60% conversion over to renewable energy sources.
instead it’s too much traffic every day and staggering electric bills.

“valleylist” is lining up the digital future. off-the-grid power should be in the picture. the series of articles on electronic publishing is online. digital “movies film and video“ has a lot of articles that many describe as “gone digital”. electronic and digital music says a lot based on pop culture leading up to a beatles bonus track.
have to read the articles to find out if the digital revolution is yet complete.

conclusion. less than 5% of the country’s power comes from solar. off-the-grid accounts for a slightly larger percentage since a number of technologies.
nuclear power provides almost 20% of the united states electrical power from 104 nuclear reactors. nuclear is the #1 source of emission-free power.
70% of the usa’s electric power comes from non-renewable sources like coal oil and fossil fuels.
- – advantages of off the grid lifestyles begin with important incentives to purchase the solar panel or wind turbine equipment and actually build the home-power plant.
other advantages include
- – generate clean reliable energy for the home
- – substantially lower cost of electric power
- – once initial investment is paid off off the grid energy is virtually free
- – rely on the grid system only as a back up
biggest disadvantage is space required for solar panels or energy storage [for example space for an energy battery].
foreign and domestic energy requirements are soaring. available fossil-based fuels are dwindling. the solution will inevitably involve solar wind nuclear and other renewable energy sources. renewable energy is even more successful combined with off-the-grid solutions.
cost savings come from eliminating energy transport costs and utility company overhead.
as an energy strategy off-the-grid is cheap and effective. Cut-over costs can be off-set by government subsidies. It is too good to be true unless you are prepared to use the grid as an energy back up.
“by the time they got to woodstock they were half a million strong.
back to the garden”.
