PEOPLE CAN’T FIND SILICON VALLEY and it’s a real problem. people visiting for the first time drive to the malls. the “valleylist” take is there is a new power structure real that anchors silicon valley . it’s based on the big companies that want to be part of silicon valley for all the right reasons.

- – easy access to smart people

- - very competitive environment

- – all the big high tech companies are already there

- – and there’s a lot of market to develop.

“valleylist” is advocating that the cities support the “high tech anchor” companies that define silicon valley. however the landscape has changed from when it was just Stanford university and santa clara. now it’s almost the entire area on the way to san francisco.

In the meantime it’s a political problem to find ways to hold on to those high tech anchor stores before the entire city-wide shopping mall is out of business.

MAYOR OF THE WEEK chuck reed missed many an important dates thus far as mayor. most surprising he missed the launch of digital television originally scheduled for 2.17.2007. Berkeley mayor tom bates who went homeless many years ago to prove a point to a now forgotten anti-homeless mayor from san francisco likes to cut things close. according to berkely city council hangers on he does not agree with chuck reed on the concept of let’s do a special project to find out if it’s legal to eliminate people. didn’t that project get heather smith fired. However chuck reed could be right after all at least on digital hi def television.

now rescheduled for 6.2009. reason is 65 million households not really ready for change over from broadcast to digital. Senate votes to postpone digital TV shift . a few days later it’s House Defeats Bill Calling For Digital [delay] and so the broadcast conversion on 2.17.2009 to digital hi def television is unchanged. “huh” – -eratta – - “valleylist” said 1.17.2009 and of course it was supposed to be june anyway.

obama demilitarizing and cancelling guantanamo bay. international statues say the u.s.a is running into criminal problems with detaining people for no obvious reason. the end of the bush agenda to keep the u.s.a. at war is what got obama elected. his new agenda for the 21st century – - out of iraq and an end to guantanamo . the washington post describes the bizarre conflict including the fact that the european union will pick up released prisoners on a case by case basis – - Guantanamo Closure Called Obama Priority .

most people will tell you that it is impossible to do all the things that they do at guantanamo anyway. they plan to try to hold people accountable for each bad moment including missed appointments and missed meetings. and it is designed to be impossible to survive because they plan to overwhelm everybody with too much bad food and too many appointments. although some people believe it’s just torture it was justified as a “special project” and “experimental” in nature.

my response was to add a few new names and videos to the “gang of eight” and “reign of terror” area including wayne tucker tom ridge jon gifford and willie brown. ning has the latest. the san francisco chronicle has recently wondered as well about the big hit on the police chiefs lately. a new chief in s.f. is an opportunity to change the world – - perhaps oakland is next – - Who will replace Oakland police chief?

mayor of the week this week is facebook friend madison nguyen . madison is facing a city council problem of an extreme nature – - recall because of problems with the voters in district 7. the recallers version – - Recall Madison. madison always looks good and didn’t need to worry until everybody realized that the chuck reed “endorsement” appears meaningless. like everybody else involved madison will need to fight it out on her own. madison ‘s version Madison Nguyen – working hard for the community and Support Madison Nguyen – No Recall . ”valleylist” is behind madison and thinks that the recall is a vain glorious effort on the part of the reed / davis administration to rekindle phoney controversy not too different from what led to Recall Gray Davis and put arnold swarzennegger in the governors office. like everything these days vote to cancel the recall. the latest from the yellow journalists themselves – - Race to oust San Jose Councilwoman Madison Nguyen heats up . here’s the video YouTube – Madison Nguyen Talk .

NEWS NEEDS TO BE NEW (sm) needs some new postings so i added new content to the facebook news needs to be new (sm) group – - an index of 46 national and local newspapers.

next new step is a better listserv because yahoo groups continues to be very problematic. no matter how many times i request that they fix the user_id problem i have somebody trying to interfere with my postings to my “valleylist” newsgroup. suggestions welcome.

with news needs to be new (sm) and other new initatives in progress “valleylist” is actively soliciting a new sponsor with a larger interest in publishing as well as in new internet and social group projects. it’s the next step - – completing the commercialization of “valleylist” .

“valleylist” is also taking the lead in applications development projects with ning network developers and designers and starting with a new project “spin the bottle” facebook application .

it’s time to hit up some of the carnegie mellon old school chums for investment money to go big time. the city of san jose has wasted 54 weeks and counting without even the slightest glimmer of a deal. they thought they’d try the “hood” instead. what a disasterous waste of time. and no credit for really putting in the time and really doing the project and coughing up the results.

anybody who’s ever toured the National Air and Space Museum in washington knows that big projects like for example deploying a squadron of fighter jets really works very effectively every day. yet the ongoing struggle to get value out of the bush project to develop a new group of people in charge of the real deal world continues to be a collosal failure.

before i loose my way complaining about the reed / davis san jose version of continuing to fiddle while rome burns it’s important to point out that almost all of the needed information is at “the reign of terror” on ning.

suggestions welcome. because i had first hand experience with a lot of the people from the gang of eight and the gang of 500 i plan to invite them to join the new group and participate. there’s a need to transition from the reign of terror to something approaching a workable solution. my complaint is 46 weeks of terror and still no deal.

high tech fever was replaced a long time ago by a need for real business and a big city revenue base. next visit to the shopping mall just remember it’s the anchor stores that draw the crowds and get people to spend their money.
