A NEW OPERATING SYSTEM after the world wide windows experience is almost unthinkable. microsoft monopolizes computers everywhere. Microsoft wins the anti-monopoly legal cases at every turn. the consumer’s need to diversify is obvious to anybody who’s relied on windows and found themselves without the system resources needed to get the job done. nonetheless windows is the big winner again with vista and planned new releases. it’s probably at least another 9 or 11 years before there’s a new release as big as vista.

a few of us people were smart enough to just go and get the job done.

computer operating systems

- – % of market for each version

windows XP – - 64%

windows Vista – - 23%

apple mac os x 10.5 – - 6%

apple mac ox x 10.4 – - 3%

windows 2000 – - 1.5%

linux 1%

operating systems – - cell phones

- – apple iphone has 65% of cell phone operating systems

cnet on windows vista doesn’t have much to say

pcworld on windows is full of interesting information for ordinary users

computerworld is kind of prepared for the version of windows

valleylist” thinks windows and all versions thereafter including vista are really heavy and difficult to use. however who can tell. there’s nothing to compare it to. so the way to critique windows is on some basic standard questions:

1. > does it bomb all the time – - yes, however only after it freezes up

the new operating system should never bomb or freeze up

2. > does it require a lot of computer time to load and learn – - yes

windows and everything upto and including vista can take days or weeks to load and learn and even then the installation is almost always wrong

3. > does it support end user try and fail approach to learning the system – - no

windows if famous for the total bomb and the total re-install and really install all features just to make sure that it’s done finally

4. > does it require hours and days of call-in technical support – - yes

the problem is everybody needs to meet deadlines and windows support is just not there either online or on the phone. be prepared to wait weeks to have your problem solved

5. > do people think the features are really top notch – - not that impressive

it’s microsoft and windows is a big improvement over dos however it should be the top of the line monopoly service available to computer people. instead it’s really labor intensive and is not that great for day to day use because it has too many service interruptions [think of television not connecting for a few days in a row and you'll get the picture]. this is the problem with the world of windows

a new operating system solves these problems and integrates seemlessly with all available media including movies, music, video, photography, home entertainment, telephone, cable, dsl, and of course internet. it’s a self-install at the click of a mouse and takes the new end user through the installation procedure. instead of fighting for cpu with applications it makes room for the applications and internet content to be processed without the slightest delay. again think of broadcast television reliability and you’ll get the picture.

ideally fixes and upgrades come from the microsoft company not the end users and most of all there’s a monthly or quarterly cycle of upgrades and improvements with each new release. the new operating system solved the fundamental security problems after a year on the market and never had to issue an emergency patch.

finally the graphic user interface is easy to use and fun. windows is way too much at the installation stage and way too little after installation.

blame bill gates.

MAYOR OF THE WEEK south san francisco is in the news with overseas firm roche dubois acquisition of genentech [$11 billion revenues] a few weeks ago. even more interesting is amgen [$15 billion revenues]. south san francisco  is the story of bio tech instead of the good old “the industrial city” . it’s Mayor Pedro Gonzalez and the city council that have guided south san francisco into the 21st century.

let’s say that amgen and genentech are the high tech anchors for south san francisco along with the few shopping malls scattered along the el camino real. downtown could improve immensely however  and of course there’s the huge draw for employment with 3,100 companies of various size. city population is largely white and asian.

for those interested in the real story behind the mayors of the u.s.a.  there’s the u.s. conference of mayors where people can look up almost any mayor.

cancel the demo real on how to make money from bio tech for the moment and let’s shine a light on people in business who are getting their bills paid and finding new clients 365 days a year. if you are ever left for dead in south san francisco just hitch a ride on the el camino and try to find your way to san francisco all by yourself says Mayor Gonzalez .

no appointment needed.

NEWS NEEDS TO BE NEW (sm) finds “valleylist” making plans for washington . it’s time for the high tech obama people to step forward with some new initiatives and of course sponsor “valleylist” business products. in addition to reaching 95,000 people a week [approaching a million a week this year] “valleylist” is selling results. for example count “valleylist” among those who helped put tesla motors on the map.

while stuck with the hostage gang in san jose “valleylist” thought it was a good idea to work with the liccardo people and get some fun coffee shops and food places for the downtown people. What sam liccardo and his people don’t understand is never do what the “enemy” tells you to do. especially in a real emergency like the bad scene going on all these years downtown.

the next big result we’re working for is creating a plan for new internet technology that isn’t so yuppie [circa 1994].

the “valleylist” goes to washington project is illustrated with the avatar

put it in the ning

beginning this version – - v62 – - “valleylist” will be putting all the sjpd garbage in the ning project with the “reign of terror” . subscribe to the ning reign of terror group.

always too dangerous for prime time the sjpd will need to follow me to washington to try to continue their bizarre nazi hostage experiment. in the meantime leave the marketing to political people like Tom Ammiano. people need the sjpd to solve their problems each and every day.

it is difficult to believe however many local business people have told me that it is the sjpd amusing themselves that is the real cause of my hostage situation.

NEW FEATURE EVERY WEEK publishing companies.

“September 18 1851 – - We publish today the first issue of the New-York Daily Times, and we intend to issue it every morning (Sundays excepted) for an indefinite number of years to come.” The founders are Henry Jarvis Raymond and George Jones.

2008 revenues of $2.9 billion

includes New York Times, International Herald Tribune, Boston Globe, 16 other daily newspapers, WQXR-FM and more than

50 Web sites, including NYTimes.com, Boston.com and About.com.

The company’s core purpose is to enhance society by creating, collecting and distributing high-quality news, information and entertainment.

speaking of the new york times, i met Martin A. Nisenholtz - – not really the person you would think might some day become the publisher of the new york times online edition – - while still a busy contributing editor to artcom magazine in san francisco. it was “applebytes” an interactive test market sponsored by nyu where people were publishing new content every day. it was a dial up service and people where enthralled by the technology and the content was compelling. yet all those years ago martin was a typical student uneasy with the artcom press credentials.

if you have any questions contact Martin while “valleylist” takes a week off to avoid an important 9 year old deadline.
