END OF THE AVATAR PROJECT finds publishers reach millions of readers. “valleylist” reaches millions everyday on facebook with the famous people avatar project.
this december it’s the u.n. global warming conference copenhagen vs. avatar the movie that appears to be a fantasy of a video fantasy game with lots of money and no decisions.
at “valleylist” it’s a simple avatar project using yahoo avatars published to facebook yahoo mail yahoo groups and twitter. it’s a continuation of the odd concept that everything end up in san francisco with mayor gavin newsom and new sfpd police chief george gascon. the new direction in technological solutions comes from sf technocrat wizkids biz stone and jack dorsey and even they have not come up with a real avatar program for twitter. instead it’s twitpic to load and display avatars made elsewhere. in fact stone and dorsey are looking more and more like the sf musician high tech industry leaders the residents. having fun instead of leading the way. if called to a vote go with devo. they sold more records.
the “valleylist” avatar program got started around 10.6.2008 as “valleylist” v39 – - avatars. the avatar program evolved into the “famous people” project first of whom was the inimitable clive cussler character “dirk pitt“. with the 12.25.2009 version of “valleylist” and the magical mystery tour the “famous people” avatar project will come to an end.
to further the quest for the right answer let’s find out what leading internet services are doing with their avatar programs?
- – leading internet services and their avatar programs
# . service / monthly visitors (000)
1. google 153,000
doesn’t have a real avatar program
2. yahoo 146,000
3. msn microsoft sites 127,000
4. aol 104,000
doesn’t have a real avatar program instant messenger includes avatar gallery
5. fox interactive 85,057
avatar program myspace avatars
6. ebay 70,021
doesn’t have a real avatar program
7. facebook 64,000
doesn’t have avatar program only a few avatar applications
8. amazon 59,000
doesn’t have avatar program only avatar books music video games toys
9. cbs interactive 53,700
neither cnet nor zdnet have real avatar programs
10. apple 53,000
doesn’t have avatar program only xbox avatar widget and avatar movie preview
3rd party avatar products
conclusion is leading internet services do not provide the needed avatar design tools. yet again yahoo! avatars stands out. in fact avatars were first intented as little versions of the end user racing around the internet to automate simple tasks. that level of sophistication seems unrealistic these days.
instead today’s avatar is a simple identification device. it can be used in many services. where to find a good avatar is a lingering problem. “valleylist” says try yahoo! avatars because it’s easy to use. the results are superlative and compatible with all internet services. it should be mentioned that a few of the top 10 internet services include assistants that track online patterns and suggest personalized recommendations such as your amazon.com or facebook which suggests new facebook friends. other personalization services [as opposed to an avatar] are my yahoo home page service and yahoo alerts that track the news and report headlines that match specified keywords.
- – “valleylist” – - spin the bottle [whirlagig]
“valleylist” spin the bottle is a new application for “groups of people”. these groups work “ad hoc” on projects ranging from events and new business to tops down management of things to do and people to meet. it could be each “group” gets their own avatar. for example the stanford university’s group could be represented by former secretary of state condolenzza rice. now that is a compelling avatar.
alvin toffler author of future shock is among the first to predict and endorse the concept of “groups of people” [commonly called "condos"]. the toffler analysis calls it the “ad hocracy”. people get together to work on an important project and then go off to a new project. the toffler theory is that people change ”groups of people” all the time.
larry ellison joins the toffler “gang” endorsing “groups of people” and tops down in the monday 11.30.2009 issue of the wall street journal “companies more prone to go verticle“.
“mr. ellison is among the executives reviving “vertical integration,” a 100-year-old strategy in which a company controls materials, manufacturing and distribution.” others pepsico and general motors have identified a need for effective tops down control as opposed to the fragmented conglomerates of the reenginering era.
a “checkbox” yes/no selection for ”group of people” would be part of each consumer’s profile. you could check yes or no.
individual self-direction is the basic ingredient. it affects everything from voting [choose party] or [decline] through taxes [do you plan to pay taxes for this year] through law enforcement [i decline to respond until i speak with an attorney]. even the census requires yes/no [do you plan to complete a census form]. there’s even worse.
dealing with it is not required like death and taxes.
according to ellison it’s pass or play.
otherwise people risk ending up stuck with the wrong people.
a ”group of people” is a lifestyle choice. not required.
“valleylist” has come up with a new service called “spin the bottle”. the project has been hanging out with the ning people for over a year. because “spin the bottle” targets those interested in the “group of people” lifestyle it is a very valuable new internet communication information networking and entertainment service. ning has yet to respond in any way to the ”spin the bottle” project.
as a result the field is now open to other players who have expressed interest including apple cisco facebook and oracle to name a few. the importance of the moment is that the “spin the bottle” project is a new service and the market for the product is likely to peak soon and then evaporate without a means of solidifying.
the objective is providing people with a stable and meaningful way of managing their “group of people” lifestyle. for some it could be as horrifying as the “hate crime condo” [obviously not for everybody] or the “graduates of stanford vollyball [of interest to a lot more people]. after the year long wait for ning to respond it looks like the way to approach this problem is ”why wait anyway”.
“groups of people” are scary because they tend to get very destructive and are likely to end up a disaster movie like the new film 2012 [over $225m the first week].
the rest of us will be off with larry ellison and the “groups of people” at macworld and the consumer electronics show while the new world order predicted by alvin toffler finds it’s appropriate place.
everybody grab somebody and get business going.
the bush-cheney effort to build one gigantic world wide “group of people” condo is an enormous failure.
- – avatar this week sf mayor gavin newsom rules.
videos mayor newsom announces regional food policy
mayor newsom appoints george gascón as sf chief of police
chef chu feeding homeless at glide memorial church
flying from palo alto over the san francisco bay
there is only one “valleylist” and here it is.
- – ad agency
“valleylist” continues their search for the right ad agency to launch the offical web site. organic has the top spot so far. after weeks of hiding out in palo alto there are no meetings with potential investors or other ad agencies. sending people doesn’t work. the odd hostage drama continues.
- – let’s move the food around
“let’s move the food around” is a zaney idea for meeting new people and making money in a brand new way. it’s the fun of finding ways to send food to the food people. they then get it to those who need it.
latest is “famous chefs” from the san francisco chronicle 11.19.2009.
it’s a “valleylist” project that’s more than charity and less than a virtual world war.

.conclusion
the holidays are to be enjoyed and shared with all kinds of people. this month “valleylist” says “move the food around”. the 5 chefs are full of great ideas and the area churches need the help.
finding food in silicon valley is a “valleylist” tradition.
“valleylist” v75 r.1 – - food is not what iron chef finds in silicon
“valleylist” v48 4.1 – - christmas and the great chefs of silicon valley
“valleylist” v56 r.1 – - what to do between 2am and the morning commute
“valleylist” v40 – - let’s move the food around
it’s easy to drive by and think about food yet finding a parking space or a reservation is difficult. if that’s not bad enough then try making a big food decision for the thanksgiving christmas vacations.
it should end up less than a world war.
